Identify the firmware

Match the product model, chip family and PCB revision. Obtain the firmware from its manufacturer or project maintainer, with release notes and flashing instructions.

Prepare your computer

Use a USB data cable, select the board serial port and close other programs using it. Install the driver specified for your USB interface if required.

Flash the supplied package

  1. Confirm the target hardware and required image files.
  2. Use the supplied flashing tool or build-system upload command.
  3. For esptool, use write-flash with each address and file pair supplied by the project.
  4. Wait for completion, then reset the board and inspect its startup output.

Offsets depend on the firmware layout. A merged image and separate bootloader, partition and application images can require different addresses.

Check the package instructions

Use the project instructions for flash size, mode and tool version. Keep the original package and configuration together so the procedure can be repeated.

Verify operation

Check the serial log and application functions. For a display board, successful uploading alone does not verify the display driver or pin configuration.
