Features & Compatibility

ESP32 connection notes

  • Adjustable PIR motion detector with digital SIG output. It reacts to changes in infrared radiation; it is not a distance meter or a reliable still-person occupancy detector.
  • Manufacturer operating supply range: 3–5 V. The ESP32 Wiki uses 3.3 V supply and a 3.3 V-compatible input.
  • Holding-time adjustment controls how long the output stays active, rather than providing a direct reaction-speed setting.

🌱Easy to use: Grove compatible interface and supports both Arduino and Raspberry Pi platforms

🌱Flexible detecting: Detecting angles up to 120 degrees, and adjustable detecting distance and holding time

🌱Small-design: 20mm x 40mm

🌱Wide application: it is commonly found in appliances and gadgets due to its low-cost, low-power,easy-to-use, and long-life cycle.

Description

PIR Sensor is short for passive infrared sensor, which applies to projects that need to detect movement of people or other warm objects in a certain range. It is also known as PIR (motion) sensor or IR sensor.

Technically, PIR is made of a pyroelectric sensor, which is able to detect different levels of infrared radiation.

If the PIR sensor notices the infrared energy, the motion detector is triggered and the sensor outputs HIGH on its SIG pin. Two potentiometers adjust detection sensitivity/range and output holding time. Seeed documents a 1–25 s holding-time range and up to 6 m detection under suitable conditions; actual range depends on mounting, motion and environment.

It is commonly found in appliances and gadgets used in homes or businesses because it is small, low-cost, low-power, easy to use, and won't wear out.
